Like the trees lining the roads in everyone’s favourite Coca-Cola advert, Sunday will see Edinburgh transformed from a stunning city into a magical winter wonder land – it’s Light Night 2014.
Sunday – 23rd November, 1:30-5pm
Following on from the success of last year’s community-centred light switch on afternoon, 2014 will see Light Night return as the official launch of Edinburgh’s Christmas. It will be an afternoon of music and dance taking place across a number of stages on George Street, culminating in the big switch on of all the city centre’s Christmas lights with fireworks. The afternoon will mark the beginning of the city’s Christmas festivities.
In true Christmas style, Light Night will have the theme of ‘Christmas Songs & Carols’, with the various stages and acts taking their own take on some of our favourite Christmas classics.
Between the schools, community and interest groups there are more than 50 acts taking to the various stages scattered along George Street, all brought together by the afternoon’s host, Forth One’s Arlene Stuart. Amongst the performers will be musicians from Hordaland, whose County Council gift Edinburgh the beautiful tree on The Mound.
The music and stages on George Street are all free, and there will be fireworks to coincide with the lights being switched on. At time of writing this is scheduled for 4:50pm.
