Friday Photo: Holyrood Palace

Holyrood Palace

Today for our weekly voyage into the photographic side of Edinburgh we are going to the very bottom of the Royal Mile, to Holyrood Palace. The Queen’s official residence in Scotland, the palace has played host to a variety of royalty and dignitaries from overseas, but currently is the Queen’s base whilst the Commonwealth Games are through in Glasgow.

Here’s a little tip for you, if you want to know if the queen is there – if she is on the premises (or going to be imminently) the royal standard will be flying from the flagpole (that’s the one with four parts and is predominant gold, red and blue); if she is not there then it will be Scotland’s alternative flag, the Lion Rampant, that will be fluttering in the breeze.

Happy Friday.
